WildGeo
WildGeo is the unified fire weather data backbone of the Wildcaster Ecosystem. It automatically collects, processes, and delivers fire-relevant environmental data to every field device, every day.
What It Does
Fire behaviour prediction is only as good as the data behind it. Terrain, vegetation, fuel moisture, and weather all need to be current and available offline. WildGeo handles this automatically: each day it ingests fresh data from multiple European official sources, packages it for local use, and broadcasts it to all registered devices. When a firefighter opens WildCaster in the field, today's environmental picture is already there, even without a signal.
Data Sources
ESA Copernicus / Sentinel-2
EU-DEM
EFFIS / JRC
ECMWF / ERA5 / ICON
The Processing Pipeline
- Ingest: Multiple official European sources pulled automatically each day
- Process: Data classified, fused, and reprojected into terrain datacubes for fire prediction
- Package: Regional packages under 500MB, ready for fully offline operation
- Broadcast: Packages pushed to all connected field devices during the daily sync
- Cache: Devices retain the last package if a sync window is missed
Galileo / EGNOS Positioning
WildGeo integrates Galileo and EGNOS precision positioning, providing accurate geolocation for field units in rugged terrain and ensuring fire perimeters are drawn with centimetre-level accuracy.
Built on Europe's Space Investment
Every data source in WildGeo is a European public institution or space programme. WildGeo turns Europe's investment in Copernicus, Galileo, ECMWF, and EFFIS into direct operational value for firefighters on the ground.
